Terms of Use

The rules for using Bunrise and Bunrise+. The most important one: you’re responsible for your own body. Do reps you can actually do.

1. The agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Bunrise App (“we”, “us”) for the Bunrise app, its widget and Live Activities, Bunrise+ and this website (together, “Bunrise”).

Bunrise is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These Terms add to the Standard EULA. If they conflict, the Standard EULA wins for anything it covers. By downloading or using Bunrise, you accept the Standard EULA and these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how data is handled.

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use Bunrise. If you are under 18, or not an adult where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you, and any purchase must be made with their permission.

2. Health and exercise safety

Bunrise is an alarm clock with an exercise challenge. It is not medical advice, a training programme or a medical device.

Talk to a doctor or other qualified health professional before using Bunrise if you have, or might have, any heart, lung, blood-pressure, joint, back or other medical condition, an injury, are pregnant or recently gave birth, have had recent surgery, or have ever been told to limit exercise. If in doubt, ask first.

3. Alarms and the 10-minute rule

Bunrise has no snooze button. A real alarm rings for up to 10 minutes from its scheduled time. Silencing it (for example with the side or volume button, by muting the in-app ringer or by leaving the app) only pauses it for about 30 seconds before it rings again. The alarm stops when you finish your reps. If you haven’t finished them 10 minutes after the scheduled time, it stops on its own and that morning counts as slept through, which resets your streak unless a Streak Freeze covers it. If you’re already doing your reps when the 10 minutes run out, you can finish them. You can also end a real alarm early by pressing and holding its chicken-out button for 40 seconds, which resets your streak.

The 10-minute rule and the 4-hour alarm lock are deliberate features, and you agree to them by setting an alarm. Practice rounds and test rings are rehearsals that save nothing, and duels are a side game: none of them is an alarm, they always have a way out, and they never affect your streak.

Bunrise uses iOS alarm features to wake you, but whether an alarm rings depends on things we don’t control: your iPhone being on and charged, your permissions and settings, your volume, iOS behaviour and updates, and hardware. Don’t rely on Bunrise as your only alarm for anything where oversleeping could cause harm or serious loss, such as taking medication, caring for someone, travel, exams or work shifts.

4. Bunrise+ subscription

Bunrise is free to download, but using it requires Bunrise+, an auto-renewable subscription. There is no free plan: after the short setup, Bunrise asks you to start Bunrise+, with a 3-day free trial if you’re eligible, before you can use the app. Bunrise+ includes every feature described in the app, currently the camera-counted alarm with the 10-minute rule, Rico, streaks, XP, badges and quests, proof clips and story cards, period mode, duels, unlimited alarms, every alarm sound, full history, a weekly Streak Freeze and the whole Closet (outfits locked to a level still need that level). Like the app, Bunrise+ is covered by these Terms and Apple’s Standard EULA.

5. Rays, XP and other virtual items

Rays, XP, levels, badges, Streak Freezes, outfits, league positions and similar items are part of the game. They can’t be bought separately with money, have no monetary value, can’t be exchanged, sold or transferred, and are not your property. They’re stored on your iPhone, so deleting the app or losing your device data resets them. We may rebalance or change them.

6. Your clips and what you share

7. Using Bunrise fairly

Don’t misuse Bunrise. For example, don’t use it to break the law or harm anyone, don’t try to copy, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app except where the law allows it, and don’t interfere with the app, this website or other people’s devices. Don’t use Bunrise or its links (such as duel and invite links) to harass, spam or impersonate anyone.

8. Our stuff

Bunrise, Rico, the Bunrise and Bunrise+ names and logos, the app’s design, artwork, animations and sounds belong to Bunrise App or our licensors. These Terms don’t give you any rights to them except the right to use Bunrise as described here. Fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License.

9. Apple and other third parties

Apple is not a party to these Terms, is not responsible for Bunrise or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. To the extent the Standard EULA applies, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of it. Payments are handled by Apple. Subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat, our service provider, as described in the Privacy Policy. Apps you share to are run by other companies under their own terms.

10. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent the law allows, Bunrise is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including that it will be error-free, that alarms will always ring, or that rep counts will be accurate.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, such as missed appointments, flights, exams or work, or for injuries resulting from exercise you choose to do. Our total liability for any claim relating to Bunrise is limited to the amount you paid for Bunrise+ in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50 if that is more.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
