The short version
- The camera feed is analysed on your iPhone to count reps. Camera frames are never uploaded, to us or anyone else.
- Proof clips are optional. With them on, a short, silent clip of your reps is saved on your iPhone; with them off, nothing is recorded.
- Proof clips, your alarms, streaks, stats and period mode are stored only on your iPhone. We have no servers that receive them and no account system.
- Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to share it through the iOS share sheet or save it to Photos.
- Subscriptions are paid through Apple. RevenueCat, our subscription service provider, receives your purchase history, a random app user ID and a device identifier (IDFV) so Bunrise+ can be unlocked and restored. No name, email or contact details.
- No account, no ads, no analytics SDKs, no tracking, no selling of data.
1. Who we are
Bunrise (the iPhone app and this website) is provided by Bunrise App (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us through our Support page.
This policy covers the Bunrise app for iPhone, its Home Screen and Lock Screen widget and Live Activities, and the website at bunrise.app.
2. The camera and your footage
Bunrise uses your iPhone’s front camera only while a rep challenge is on screen: when an alarm rings, or during a test ring, practice round, early-bird round or duel.
- Rep counting happens on your device. Camera frames are analysed in real time with Apple’s Vision framework, which estimates body joint positions (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and so on). These positions are used to count reps. Neither the frames nor the positions are ever uploaded.
- Proof clips. Proof clips are optional: you choose during setup, and you can switch them off anytime in Settings › Save proof clips. With them on, once you have held your start position and the screen shows GO, Bunrise records a video-only clip (no sound, no microphone) of your reps on a real alarm, an early-bird round or a duel. Practice rounds and test rings never record. The clip is saved inside the app’s private storage on your iPhone so you can turn it into a shareable proof clip later. It stays on your iPhone unless you share it or save it to Photos yourself (section 5). If a challenge ends before your reps are done, its clip is discarded. With proof clips off, the camera only counts your reps and nothing is recorded. Switching them off doesn’t delete clips you already have; deleting the app does.
- Motion sensors. During the challenge Bunrise reads your phone’s orientation (gravity direction) to correct for a tilted phone. This is used in real time and not stored.
- We never see your camera feed, your clips or your body-pose data. We don’t use them to identify you, and we don’t use facial recognition.
3. What is stored on your iPhone
Bunrise has no account and no server of its own. The following is stored locally, in storage that only Bunrise (and its widget) can read:
| Data | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Profile and settings | The name you give yourself and Rico (both optional), your default move, rep count and wake-up goal, your onboarding answers, sound and haptics settings, whether proof clips are on, and a randomly generated invite code. |
| Alarms | Times, repeat days, move, reps, sound and label, so the alarms can be scheduled with iOS. |
| Period mode | Only the date and time period mode switches itself off (5 days after you turn it on), deleted when it ends or you switch it off. Used only to halve your alarm reps. See below. |
| Wake-up history | For each morning: ring time, start and finish time, reps and rep timing, Rise Score, grade, XP and streak, or that it was slept through or chickened out. Practice rounds and test rings aren’t kept. Used for your stats, streaks, badges and quests. |
| Game progress | XP, level, Rays, Streak Freezes, badges, quests, league tier and the outfits you’ve unlocked. |
| Proof clips | If proof clips are on: video-only recordings of your reps (see section 2), kept until you delete the app. |
| Widget data | A small snapshot (your streak, best streak, last rise day, Rico’s name and outfit, and your upcoming alarm times, moves, reps and labels) saved in a shared App Group container on your iPhone so the Rise widget and Live Activities can show it. It never leaves your device. |
| Subscription status | Whether Bunrise+ is active, cached so Bunrise keeps working when you’re offline. |
Period mode stays on your phone. The only thing Bunrise stores is the date it switches itself off, on your iPhone, and that date is deleted when period mode ends. It is never sent to us, to RevenueCat or to anyone else, we can’t see it, and Bunrise keeps no cycle history. It uses period mode for one thing only: halving your alarm reps for 5 days. Bunrise doesn’t read or write Apple Health data.
Shareable videos and story cards are rendered into the app’s temporary folder when you open the share screen. iOS clears that folder automatically.
If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, iOS may include Bunrise’s data in that backup. Backups are handled by Apple under your Apple Account settings, and we can’t access them.
Your alarm label, move and rep count can appear on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island when an alarm rings or rings again, and the widget shows your streak and next alarm. In period mode they show the halved rep count, and Bunrise’s own ringing screen also says “Period mode”. Anyone who can see your screen can see those.
4. Permissions Bunrise asks for
- Camera: to count your reps and, if proof clips are on, to record them (section 2). You can turn camera access off in iPhone Settings › Apps › Bunrise.
- Alarms: so Bunrise can schedule real alarms with iOS (AlarmKit) that ring even in Silent mode and Focus, including the repeat rings of the 10-minute rule.
- Notifications: only for local notifications created on your iPhone. They are used if you don’t allow alarms (as a fallback way to wake you) and, if you opt in, for a reminder before a free trial ends. We don’t send push notifications from a server.
- Photos (add only): requested only when you tap “Save to Photos”. Bunrise can add your clip or card to your library. It can’t read your photos.
When you tap Share, Save to Photos or Copy caption, Bunrise puts a caption on your clipboard so you can paste it. Bunrise never reads your clipboard.
5. When you share
Nothing is posted automatically. When you tap Share, Bunrise opens the iOS share sheet and you choose where your clip, card, invite or duel link goes (for example a messaging or social app). What you share is then handled by that app or service and its own privacy policy, and by the people you share it with. We don’t receive a copy.
Proof clips and cards can show your reps, wake-up time, streak, grade, level, invite code and the name you entered. Duel links include the name you entered, your move, your rep count and the target time in the link itself, and invite links include your invite code, so anyone you send them to can read them. If someone opens a duel or invite link in a web browser, the request reaches this website (see section 11).
Please only record and share footage of yourself, and ask before filming anyone else.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
Apple. Bunrise+ is sold through the App Store, and Apple is the payment processor: Apple takes your payment and handles billing, renewals and refunds. We never see your card details, name, address or Apple Account email. Apple’s handling of your data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat, Inc. as a service provider (a data processor acting on our instructions) to manage subscriptions: to check whether Bunrise+ is active, process purchases and restores, and validate App Store receipts. When the app starts or comes back to the foreground, and when you buy or restore, the RevenueCat software in Bunrise sends RevenueCat:
- an anonymous app user ID: a random ID that RevenueCat generates for your installation of Bunrise. It isn’t linked to your name, email or Apple Account, and there is no Bunrise login,
- your App Store transaction and subscription information, such as product, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, trial status, price, currency and App Store country,
- a device identifier: the identifier for vendor (IDFV), a random ID that iOS gives Bunrise on your iPhone. It is not the advertising identifier (IDFA), which Bunrise never uses, and iOS replaces it when you delete Bunrise (and any other apps from us),
- technical information needed to process the request, such as the app and operating system version, device model and preferred language, and your IP address as part of the network connection.
We use this to unlock Bunrise+, to restore purchases, to prevent fraud, and to understand subscription numbers (for example how many people start or cancel a trial). We don’t add your name, email or any contact details, we don’t use this data to track you or for advertising, and we don’t share it with advertisers. RevenueCat never receives your camera footage, proof clips, reps, alarms, wake-up history, period mode or profile. It processes subscription data only on our behalf and only to provide its service to us. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
Service providers. RevenueCat is the only third party the Bunrise app sends personal data to. We require it, and any service provider we use in the future, to protect that data at least as well as this policy describes and to use it only for the purposes above.
Even before you start a free trial, and if you never buy anything, RevenueCat receives the random ID and technical information so Bunrise can check whether you have an active subscription.
7. What we don’t do
- No ads, and no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites, and no use of the advertising identifier (IDFA).
- No location, contacts, microphone, health records or HealthKit data. Period mode stays on your iPhone (section 3).
- No selling or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising.
- No account, login or social sign-in.
8. Keeping and deleting data
- On your iPhone: data stays until you delete it. Deleting the Bunrise app deletes everything it stored on your iPhone, including proof clips, history, alarms, period mode and widget data. Clips or cards you saved to Photos or shared elsewhere stay where you put them.
- Subscriptions: deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel in iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
- RevenueCat: we keep purchase records for as long as needed to provide Bunrise+ and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, then delete them. To ask us to delete them sooner, contact us through the Support page with details that let us find your record (for example the order ID from Apple’s purchase receipt email). Some transaction records may have to be kept by law.
9. Children
Bunrise is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. The app itself keeps its data on the device. If you believe a child has bought a subscription and you want the related purchase records deleted, contact us.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because almost everything is stored only on your iPhone, you control it directly. For the purchase records held by RevenueCat on our behalf, contact us through the Support page. We will not discriminate against you for using these rights.
Where EU or UK law applies, we process purchase records because it is necessary to provide the subscription you asked for (contract), for our legitimate interests in preventing fraud and understanding our subscription numbers, and to meet legal obligations such as tax record-keeping. RevenueCat is based in the United States, and its privacy policy describes how it protects data transferred internationally.
11. This website
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking. Everything it shows, including its fonts, is served from bunrise.app itself, so visiting it doesn’t send your browser to other companies. The hosting provider that serves the site may log technical request data, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested (including the details in a duel or invite link), for security and operations. The duel and invite pages read the details in the link only inside your browser.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects what happens to your data, we’ll also give notice in the app or on this website before it takes effect.
Questions or requests: contact Bunrise App through the Support page.
